29 Rooms aka Instagram Heaven

There’s nothing millennials love more than bomb backdrops for the perfect insta. Throw in some props and cool lighting and you’ve got yourself a party.  A couple weekends ago, my best friend Justice and I went to 29 Rooms, “Refinery29’s imaginative and interactive funhouse of style, culture, & technology, brought to life by a group of global artists and visionaries across mediums, and powered by you.” It. Was. AWESOME.

We snagged our tickets months ago and were so happy that the time had finally come!
Here are some tips that I will keep in mind for next year’s event, scroll down to see all the fun we had!

These are going to make it sound like this event is an Olympic sport… but it basically is..

I recommend getting to the warehouse 45 minutes before doors open.

PRO TIP: Make your way to the back of the warehouse first, starting at Room 29 and moving backwards to end your day at Room 1. This way, you have immediate access to a lot of rooms before other people get there.

Go with one friend… no more no less. The large gaggles of girls slowed down all the lines and you need to be able to move quickly through each room before your three hour time limit is up. Yes you get three hours and STILL won’t see every room.

Game plan what photos you want to take as you wait in line for the room. Do you want one with a certain prop? A boomerang of you against that shiny wall? Walking through the fun mylar curtains? You want to make sure you can get in and out as effectively as possible while ensuring you get those stunning photos.

These rooms are small and fully lit with stage lights… aka SO FREAKING HOT. Layers are key! And don’t wear heels/booties if you’re not ready to stand in long lines for hours on end.

Remember to look at and take in the art installations! What a concept! The frenzied energy of the warehouse definitely makes you feel rushed  for time, so this is just a friendly reminder to experience the magic of these beautiful rooms that are all so uniquely different!

We didn’t make it to all 29 Rooms but here are our highlights!

Someone bumped into Justice while taking this picture, hence my “whoops!” facial expression

Women’s March Room — They had postcards on the table for everyone to write letters to their senators. All you had to do was drop it in the box and they would stamp and mail them all!
I think the kickboxing room was one of my favorites! Could finally put all my skills to the very easy test, hah! I just love kickboxing!

Dreamer’s Den — Ok, this one was AMAZING. Singer Kat Cunning told everyone to write a dream they’ve had down on paper, and then she would pick one a sing a 3 minute improv’d song about it. Unreal.

Shred It — This room was co-created by Jake Gyllenhaal and you could go to one of the writing stations, write something down that has been on your mind or stressing you out… something that is no longer serving you… and then SHRED IT! It actually felt therapeutic to put my worries down on paper and then watch them get destroyed.
Alexa Meade Art — This. Gal. Is. A. Badass! Go follow @alexameadeart on Instagram to see how she makes her incredible work. She essentially transforms 3D reality into 2D abstraction… Unreal.

See you at 29Rooms next year!
